Please join the Superfund for Jewish Education and Continuity, the Jewish Broadcasting Network and the World Jewish Digest as we co-host the 2007 Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema’s screening of 2 exciting and heartwarming documentaries at the Wilmette Theater. The Wilmette Theater is located at 1122 Central, Wilmette, and show time is 6:30 PM.
The films ( 2 short films) selected are
The Ashkenazim - The Ashkenazim is a funny-sad film about young Israelis who are in search of their Ashkenazi roots. The film follows the changes in the lives of these young people as they reconnect to their Ashkenazi heritage. What are they longing for, why are they filled with shame and guilt, why do they feel rejected, and will they ever be able to bring some of their forefather's lost Ashkenazi culture to the Middle East?
Facing the Wind – Facing the Wind is an inspirational film about a boy who was blinded in the Sbarro Pizza bombing, and who learns to sail.
For more information about these and other showings, please contact the 2007 Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema, 847-675-FEST (3378) or www.chicagofestivalofisraelicinema.org.
July 2007
Did you know? In July of 2007, the Superfund for Jewish Education and Continuity distributed $70,079.47 in urgently needed funds to 12 Jewish elementary schools and 9 Jewish high schools in Chicago. These funds will be used for scholarships to make Jewish day school education available to more children who could not otherwise afford it, for teacher education, for classroom needs, for school improvements, and for other enrichment or stopgap expenses as the schools see fit.
June 2007
On June 5, 2007, the Superfund for Jewish Education and Continuity held an Inaugural Fundraising Concert with Israeli singing sensation, Dudu Fisher at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts, in Skokie. Nearly 600 patrons were in attendance, people who learned more about the Superfund and the importance of funding Jewish education. The Superfund shared its message with a broad audience and made many new friends. Proceeds from the concert came to nearly $64,000. Because of a generous gift from an anonymous donor who covered all operational costs, 100% of the concert proceeds were dedicated and promptly distributed to beneficiary schools.
