The Superfund for Jewish Education and Continuity was established as a nonprofit organization with 501(c)3 status in 2004. With a small number of core supporters, it has quietly supported a number of Chicago area day schools through direct donations, and has also run a publicity campaign to raise awareness for the urgency of supporting Jewish Day Schools.

The Superfund was preceded by another initiative called The 5% Mandate. The 5% Mandate encouraged every Jewish man and woman to donate 5% of their estate value to Jewish education at the time of writing their will. The 5% concept has been integrated into the broader Superfund platform, where both current giving to an annual campaign and planned giving through estate or life gifts are encouraged at a level of 5% of income/estate or greater.
